Welcome to the third edition of the new Nightingale News! This will be a weekly newsletter published on the school website.

A very special reader

This week in Nightingale, Adam Shaikh has been recognised by Reading Plus as one of the top readers in the country! Through his hard work, both in school and at home, he has managed to complete nearly 200 lessons, and read 250,000 words

This incredible effort by Adam has seen him rise over 8 reading levels. The best part is, he doesn't look like stopping any time soon! We cannot stress how proud we all are of Adam.

He has been rewarded with a book of choosing, a giftcard so he can choose another book, a trophy, and a certificate.

What’s been happening in school?

Year 5 have finished their Bikeability sessions this week! Despite the rainy weather they have enjoyed developing their skills in the playground and on the road.

Well done for being great ambassadors for our school, year 5!

Thank you to all the families who joined us for the Pop-Up bookshop on Tuesday after school! We hope that the children enjoyed reading their books at home!

What are we learning about in English at the moment?

Reception - Iris and Isaac is Reception’s book - they are really enjoying it!

Year 1 - the children in year 1 are reading the book Peace at Last. They are working hard on their handwriting and using full stops.

Year 3 - year 3 are reading 13-Storey Treehouse and are going to be writing stories based on a dilemma from the book.

Year 4 - year 4 are really enjoying The Wild Robot - they are going to be writing letters from the main character Roz.

Year 5 - in year 5 their class text this half term is Cosmic: it’s one giant leap for boy-kind. They are really enjoying learning about space!

Year 6 - Wonder is year 6’s class text this half term. They are also writing letters.

Librarians

We have appointed 6 fabulous children to be our school librarians. These children are in years 4, 5 and 6 and are spending two lunchtimes per week helping out in the library. Look out for the badges on their uniforms!

Attendance
