Welcome back to the fourth half term of the school year! Time is flying by and we have lots of exciting things planned for the children at Nightingale over the next few weeks.
What’s been happening in school?
-
It’s been Assessment Week in school so the children in years 1 - 6 have been working hard on showing us everything they have learnt in reading, maths and grammar. Good job everyone!

Everyone in school has started a new history topic this week:
Year 1 are learning about toys through the ages.
Year 2’s topic is Famous Explorers.
Year 3 are learning about Ancient Egypt.
Year 4’s topic is the Romans.
Year 5 are learning about The Suffragettes.
Year 6’s topic is the British Empire.

On Tuesday this week we had a special assembly about Ramadan. The assembly was led by a visitor who talked about the importance of Ramadan. The children then took part in role play and enacted how Ramandan first came about.
British Values
At Nightingale we are tolerant of all cultures, faiths and beliefs. We celebrate our diverse community and are proud of all that our children bring to our school life.
This week in Monday’s assembly, Miss Lewis talked to the children about Lent, Ramadan and Martisor - three different celebrations from three different cultures that are being celebrated by our school community at the moment.
Electric Scooters
We have had incidents of adults as well as children riding electric scooters in the playground. Please can electric scooters not be ridden on the school grounds to ensure our school community is safe during busy drop-off and pick-up times.
Attendance
Our attendance target is 96%. We want your children to be in school ALL DAY EVERYDAY! School is open between 8.45am and 3.30pm Monday - Friday. Whatever the weather, we want your children to be in school learning and doing all the great activities the teachers are planning.
The highest attendance classes this week have been:
In Early Years: Sparrows with 98.1%
In KS1: Peacocks with 93%
In years 3 and 4: Kestrels with 92.5%
In years 5 and 6: Wrens and Hawks with 95.4%
