We have reached the end of week 3 of the half term already! Time flies when we are having fun and doing so much learning!

What’s been happening in school?

  • On Friday 27th March, three year 5 children went to 1 Angel Square to take part in the Trust Spelling Bee competition. They had been practising hard and only missed two words in the whole day! Well done, everyone.

  • On Wednesday, a group of KS2 children went to Co-op Academy Leeds to take part in an athletics competition - we won gold! Fantastic skills on show, well done.

  • Thank you to all the parents/carers who joined us at Parent’s Evening this week. If you didn’t attend, please let the office know if you would like an appointment to speak to your child’s teacher.

Year 6 SATs Week

Thank you to those parents who joined us at the Year 6 SATs information session on Monday afternoon. The information has been emailed out to all parents/carers of year 6 children. Here are some of the key messages:

  • Year 6 SATs Week is w/c 11th May.

  • The children must be in school on time, every day this week.

  • The children will take the following test papers: Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar, Reading, Arithmetic and Maths Reasoning.

If you would like any further information about these assessments and how they work in school, please contact Mrs Thompson, Mr Wright or Miss Edwards.

Staffing Update

Miss Marsh has made the decision to move on from teaching at Nightingale to a school closer to her home in Doncaster. We want to thank her for her support she has provided each of the children. We are excited to announce that Mrs Ahmed will be taking over Eagles class from next week.

Miss Baldwin and Mr Currie have also taken up the offer of new teaching positions. After nearly 5 years and 3 years at the school Miss Baldwin and Mr Currie are excited for a change and a new challenge. We would like to thank them both for their contributions to Nightingale and the impact they have made on the school community.Miss Khan will be joining our year 5 teaching team after the Easter break.

I am sure you will join us in wishing these teachers the best in their new roles.

British Values

At Nightingale we know that democracy means we all have a say in some decisions about school life. This week, the classes have been voting for two Reading Ambassadors who will support Mrs Thompson and the school librarians in promoting our love of books and reading.

Skill Builder

Our Skill of the Week this week has been Speaking. The children have been working on their ability to communicate with each other clearly and sensibly, saying their ideas in a careful way using appropriate vocabulary.

Attendance

Our attendance target is 96%. We want your children to be in school ALL DAY EVERYDAY! School is open between 8.45am and 3.30pm Monday - Friday. Whatever the weather, we want your children to be in school learning and doing all the great activities the teachers are planning.

The highest attendance classes this week have been:

In Early Years: Sparrows with 99.2%

In KS1: Peacocks with 95%

In years 3 and 4: Kingfishers with 96%

In years 5 and 6: Wrens with 95.9%
