Happy Summer term from the team at Nightingale! It has been lovely to see our children back in school this week enjoying the sunshine and making a fantastic start to their learning.

What’s been happening in school?

  • Reception is very egg-cited this week! We had delivered 24 eggs to look after and care for.  We put them very carefully in the incubator and fingers crossed in 3 weeks chicks will start hatching!

  • This week, our Year 3 classrooms turned into a busy geology lab! The children have been diving deep into the world of Earth Science by exploring a fascinating collection of rocks. Working in small "research teams," the children used their observation skills to examine textures, colours and patterns.

  • The children have all started new geography topics this week:

Year 1 is learning about Antarctica and the Arctic.

Year 2 will be thinking about the Coast and the Countryside.

Year 3 will be comparing the cities of London and Valencia.

Year 4 is learning about Ghana.

Year 5’s topic is Romania.

Year 6 will be learning about Ecuador.

Why not ask your child what they have been learning about!

African World Heritage Day

African World Heritage Day is celebrated every year on 5th May and we are very excited to be celebrating it in school this year! On Tuesday 5th May we will have a special assembly to celebrate the unique cultural and natural heritage of Africa.

If any children have a special item of clothing or object at home that represents their African heritage or culture, they are welcome to bring this into school on 5th May for a Show and Tell in their class.

Year 6 SATs Week

On Monday 11th May - Thursday 14th May, our year 6 pupils will be taking their end of Key Stage 2 tests. We are so proud of all the hard work they have been putting into their learning and we know they are going to do brilliantly.

The children in year 6 are invited to a SATs breakfast club at 8.20am on 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th May.

All year 6 children must be in school on time this week.

British Values

One of the British Values is Rule of Law. We have seen lots of fantastic behaviour in school this week where children have worked hard to follow the school Golden Rules.

Skill Builder

This week’s skill has been speaking. The children in years 1 and 2 read a story about a child called Gina who gets more confident at using her voice.

Chewing Gum, Make-up and Fidget toys

A reminder that chewing gum is not allowed in school. If your child uses chewing gum at home, please ensure this is not brought into school.

Please also remind your children not to bring in fidget toys or make-up items such as lip gloss. These items are getting lost in school and are best kept at home. Thank you for your support with this.

Congratulations to this week’s Stars of the Week! We celebrated these children in Friday’s assembly.
