We can’t believe it’s the end of the Spring 1 half term! It’s been a busy half term here at Nightingale and we have enjoyed all the learning and progress the children have been making.
What’s been happening in school?
Reception enjoyed a fantastic Stay and Play on Thursday based around Chinese New Year! Thank you to all the families who joined us.
The children in school who are learning phonics have started in their new groups this week! It has been lovely to see them settling in and showing off their fantastic reading skills!
On Monday, all children in school participated in Internet Safety Workshops and assemblies. The children found out about keeping safe online and how to act responsibly when using a phone or another device.

Electric Scooters
Please can electric scooters not be ridden on the school grounds to ensure our school community is safe during busy drop-off and pick-up times.
Attendance
Our attendance target is 96%. We want your children to be in school ALL DAY EVERYDAY! School is open between 8.45am and 3.30pm Monday - Friday. Whatever the weather, we want your children to be in school learning and doing all the great activities the teachers are planning.
The highest attendance classes this week have been:
In Early Years = Starlings with 96.05%
In KS1 = Pigeons with 89.8%
In years 3 and 4: Kingfishers with 94.55%
In years 5 and 6: Hawks with 91.54%
Ramadan
We would like to wish all our Muslim families best wishes for the month of Ramadan.
- We would like to continue to work in partnership with you to support your child’s well-being and learning at this time.
- We understand that Shari’ah states that fasting during Ramadan is only obligatory from the age of puberty. Many of our younger children will want to join their friends and family and try fasting and we are aware that in many families this is achieved through involvement at weekends. We therefore will only be able to support our older children (Year 5 and 6) in fasting during the school day.
- If you feel that your child is able to fast and they choose to do so, we can arrange for them to be supervised and sit quietly at lunchtime. Alternatively, they can join their friends in the playground, as long as they conserve their energy and sit quietly.
Please bear in mind the following:
- The school will support those who choose to take part, but will not enforce the fast. We will meet and talk with the children at the beginning of each day.
- Children should order lunch as usual during this time. So that if they do choose to eat something is available to them. If your child brings a packed lunch we ask that you continue to provide this so they have the option to eat should they wish to.
- If a child faints due to dehydration, they will be given water.
- For health and safety reasons, no child will be allowed to fast unless we have their parent’s consent.
- If we have significant concerns about your child’s health, we will need to be able to contact you during the school day, so please ensure that your contact details are up to date on the attached form.
- The school wishes you and your family a peaceful time.
