It’s been a busy week at Nightingale - lots of exciting activities have been taking place in school.
What’s been happening in school?
-
This week the children have been working really hard on following our school Golden Rules! In particular, we have been working on moving around school quietly and sensibly. The children have been doing this brilliantly!
-
We have been enjoying our new geography topics! This is
what each year group have been learning about:
Year 1 - What are the important places in school and where are they?
Year 2 - What makes the UK special?
Year 3 - How are mountains formed and why are they important to the world?
Year 4 - What is the impact of earthquakes and volcanoes on the Earth?
Year 5 - Why is the Tundra biome the least inhabited on Earth?
Year 6 - Will future generations be able to enjoy the beach?
-
Reception held their first Stay and Play of the year - thank you to all the adults who were able to join us in school to see how well the children have settled in.
PE Uniform
Every child in school will receive a PE top for free! Please make sure they bring this in for their PE lessons. Here is a reminder of when each year group has PE:
Year 1 - Tuesday
Year 2 - Thursday
Year 3 - Monday
Year 4 - Tuesday (swimming)
Year 5 - Thursday
Year 6 - Monday
Jewellery
We ask that children do not wear any jewellery in school (bracelets, necklaces and rings.) A pair of stud earrings is allowed.
False nails and nail varnish should also be saved for the weekend.
Reading Books
Please send your child to school with their book bag and reading book every day.
This year we are not using a paper reading record: we are using an online way of recording our reading called Track My Read. Here is the link to the school’s page:

If your child has lost or forgotten their log-in details, please let your child’s teacher know.
This week’s book recommendation
This best-selling story from acclaimed writer David Almond is a classic choice for children in Year 6.
When Michael moves to his new house, his world begins to unravel.
David Almond’s million-copy bestseller is beautifully brought to life with the soulful addition of Tom De Freston’s artful illustrations.
Attendance
Our attendance target is 96%. We want your children to be in school ALL DAY EVERYDAY! School is open between 8.45am and 3.30pm Monday - Friday. Whatever the weather, we want your children to be in school learning and doing all the great activities the teachers are planning.
The highest attendance classes this week have been:
In Early Years: Sparrows with 90%
In KS1: Ravens with 98%
In years 3 and 4: Eagles with 93%
In years 5 and 6: Doves with 97%
