Music.

Our vision:

At Co-op Academy Nightingale, our music curriculum is based on the scheme Charanga. We follow a structure within our lessons to ensure children are given opportunities to develop a love of music through listening to a range of genres and appraising music. We ensure explicit teaching of music skills and always include a performance element in our lessons. We know the importance of vocabulary and key music vocabulary is taught to our children explicitly.

Engagement and inspiration are core values within music lessons for us at Co-op Academy Nightingale.

Creativity is important to us at Nightingale – music enables children to engage and be inspired, leading to a love of music and development of their musical talents. We utilise Charanga in line with the National Curriculum aims, which are as follows:

  • perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions, including the works of the great composers and musicians.

  • learn to sing and to use their voices, to create and compose music on their own and with others, have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument, use technology appropriately and have the opportunity to progress to the next level of musical excellence.

  • understand and explore how music is created, produced and communicated, including through the interrelated dimensions: pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture, structure and appropriate musical notations.

Lesson structure is important to us at Nightingale and we always include:

  • Explore
