Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education.

Our vision:

At Co-op Academy Nightingale, we deliver a PSHE curriculum which is progressive across school. Our curriculum follows the Jigsaw scheme which brings together Personal, Social, Health Education, emotional literacy, social skills and spiritual development in a comprehensive scheme of learning. Children complete one lesson each week which follows a set of learning themes:

We know the importance of student voice and encourage our students to speak and share in lessons. We also put the development of our children’s personal agency as a priority within our curriculum.

At Co-op Academy Nightingale, our PSHE curriculum is fundamentally built upon the principle of contextual safeguarding, ensuring we actively and responsively address the unique, real-world needs of our students. We meet these needs through a continuous, layered approach that includes targeted PSHE lessons, school assemblies, regular student check-ins, and vital collaboration with external agencies—such as the police and specialized youth outreach groups—to further enrich knowledge on safety issues. Beyond the curriculum, we foster a positive and empowering school environment: every class utilizes a Worry Box to encourage children to share concerns, and our Student Council ensures pupil voice is heard across both key stages. We enrich student experiences by celebrating important universal events like Fairtrade Fortnight and Black History Month, and by beginning to offer clubs, such as our planned group focused on self-confidence and sports. Finally, we want to actively embrace a culture of kindness through a pupil-led recognition program, where children nominate their peers for positive acts, celebrating these achievements with certificates in assembly.
