Modern Foreign Languages.

Our vision:
At Co-op Academy Nightingale, our MFL curriculum comes from a scheme called Primary Network languages and our children learn Spanish. Interactive and engaging videos are used to introduce and model the use of key vocabulary being taught in that lesson. The scheme is progressive and follows sequential lesson plans and mapped out progression of vocabulary. Communication is key to us here at Nightingale and our MFL teaching encompasses this.
Here at Nightingale there are over 40 languages spoken and we value one another's languages and everyone’s home languages. We ensure that children draw comparisons between the learning in their Spanish lessons to the English language and further encourage children to share translations alongside similarities and differences they can see with their home language.
Furthermore, we understand that learning languages can be tricky and it is important to give children the opportunity to hear the correct pronunciation of a language and practise applying this in speech. To bring the subject to life, songs and games are used as hooks and tools for children to remember their learning.
Lesson structure is important to us at Nightingale and we always include:
-
An introduction to the learning
-
A recap on previous vocabulary
-
Introduction of new key vocabulary
-
